Norita Horne, CEO and Founder of STARS, (Successful Teens Achieving Right Solutions). Ms. Norita as some call her; is a Mother of three teenage sons, Foster Mother of two, and mentor to many.
Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she will tell you because of her father being in the Military she has traveled to many places (what most would call a military brat). Her travel has helped her adapt to different environments and to relate to people from all walks of life. She attended Sacramento City College and American River College, in Sacramento, California she majored in social work and business Administration.
Norita has 32 years of Civil Service, and has held a variety of jobs from Supply Supervisor, to a Supply Management Specialist. She started her Civil Service Career at McClellan A.F.B. in Sacramento, California. After the base closure she transferred to Fort Braggs, Fayetteville North Carolina, and stayed there a year, then re-located to Robins AFB where has been for nine years.
Norita has worked as a Mentor for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization. She also has been a Foster Mother both in Georgia and California. She has organized several women groups and other social and community events for both youth and adults.
Her dedication to helping youth comes from the same determination and giving spirit her Mother (Willma Chapman) has. Norita recalls having many other sisters and brothers who were not her biological siblings of whom her mother either raised or mentor and of which she is continuing to do today.
STARS came out of the love Norita has for not only helping her own children succeed but others as well. She believes “It’s what you do for others that really count, nothing else matters. Teaching our youth to make right choices is the first step to being successful. Helping them to believe in their dreams is the second step. Once they think it, let’s help them to achieve it”.
It is truly Norita’s life goal to encourage, motivate and inspire.” We take this journey of life not to walk it by ourselves but to help someone else that is on the road with us. No matter the age, gender, background, degrees or titles one may hold, each must reach one”.
